The Homestretch follows three homeless teens as they fight to stay in school, graduate, and build a future. Each of these smart, ambitious teenagers - Roque, Kasey and Anthony - will surprise, inspire, and challenge audiences to rethink stereotypes of homelessness as they work to complete their education while facing the trauma of being alone and abandoned at an early age.

Through haunting images, intimate scenes, and first-person narratives, these teens take us on their journeys of struggle and triumph. As their stories unfold, the film connects us deeply with larger issues of juvenile justice, immigration, foster care, and LGBTQ rights.

With unprecedented access into the Chicago Public Schools, The Night Ministry’s “Crib" emergency youth shelter and Teen Living Programs’ Belfort House, The Homestretch follows these kids as they move through the milestones of high school while navigating a landscape of couch hopping, emergency shelters, transitional homes, street families and a school system on the front lines of this crisis.

The film examines the struggles these youth face in obtaining a high school level education, and then follows them beyond graduation to focus on the crucial transition when the structure of school vanishes and homeless youth struggle to find the support and community they need to survive and be independent.

Summer Tymes.

Today is my younger brother's 39th birthday....
(hmmm...I believe so.)

It's tough 2 fathom it being so long since refusing 2 have him tag along cause it
was a headache. 

Now with a family of his own & totally independent, I've nothing more 2 say 

but dayum I'm so proud to have such a great guy as a brother.... & not just because it's his birthday.

Anyways...

We decided 2 make a run across the city for a little birthday celebration including
bonfire action & barbeque 

(of course)...

...something we've been known 2 do nearly every "SUMMER".

Great times.

So time has passed since then but found 
my way down in the dirty south.
Backwoods Georgia 2 be exact.

Makes me wonder if there's anything
 I wouldn't do 2 keep Lady Tammy smilin'.  

Always an experience spending moments with those loved most....

Anyways, this whole small town experience had me considering a move from the Chi 2 a place where things appeared so much more simple.

We decided 2 take a quick trip back down memory lane @ a time 
when things were new. 

So many things have been revealed since the 
swift understanding  that there's much more 
than meets the eye.

Noticing that everyone has a story 2 share 
& none other is better than the next. 

The details & outcome is what 
makes it all so cool. 

Similar 2 a set of fingerprints where 
no 2 is alike.

Update:
It's been nearly 3 months already & countin' since making another impulsive move from backwoods of Georgia back to Maine. 

Lookin' back, the Georgia experience has been 
a mighty interesting one. 

Thank goodness for the trusty Canon. 
(Whew! what would I do without ya!)

Had the great liberty 2 meet some truly good hearted people & for that, 
we're thankful.

There isn't just one episode that hasn't taught us a plenty about where we stand in the midst of all things...

It surely comes 2 show how life can continuously throw  variations of punches your way...

& if you're not on it, BAM! 

It's been quite the adventure while we steadily learned more & more about ourselves as individuals....

& as a couple.

All of this can do absolutely nothing less than make us "BETTER".

It's cool 2 see how despite circumstance or action 

good people are able 2 find some sort of 

common space & appreciate the difference. 

Sometimes I remind myself of where we're 

from & how we ended up where we are. 

Often reminds me of a neurotic romantic hippy love sitcom or something. 

It's such an interesting story. 

A story that's sure 2 never end...

Whew! 

Finally got sorta a grip on the newest of situations. 

It's not everyday that you make such huge life changing decisions where what lies ahead is uncertainty.  

I have 2 admit that this is pretty exciting though... 

Rebuilding from the ground up & starting with a 

fresh clean start....again.

After lookin' @ everything with wide angled lenses, 
I've come 2 realize that fear could be your very worst enemy. 

Is it fear of rejection? 

Ridicule? 

or maybe just scared?...

Oh that would be fear....
(lol)

Whatever the case, 

it's certainly worth the risk.

Personally, this past week has been mighty challenging 
while facing & conquering fears I never thought I could. 

Now that I have, surprisingly I want more cause being 
told "no" isn't as bad as it seems. 

It's similar 2 that "Rocky" character where all seems lost but with a tad bit of courage, 

all is well....

Ok, ok...enough of the sappiness.

Been here in P-town 

(that's my little twist for Portland), 

for nearly 3 weeks & after a few spins around town, I've come 2 realize that this is 

certainly an artist hub. 

Now mind you, I've never really associated Portland as being part of the creative scene - 

(but boy was I wrong.) 

Guess there's room for another 

brand in town.....

(**clear throat)

...that'll be us if you're wondering.

Seems like we're traveling aimlessly in the twilight zone....

especially since just leaving those 

backwoods of Georgia....
(Uggghh!)

Now it 's time 2 move forward & look @ all this in a 

much different "LIGHT".
